Student Testimonials

  • I have been practising yoga with Lulu Bull at BMIYS since 2010. Starting with her when I first moved to the Blue Mountains and was pregnant, Lulu has guided me through important phases of my life. Lulu’s excellent instruction has followed the strict precision and alignment philosophy that Iyengar yoga calls for, yet her gentle and concise guidance through pranayama has helped incredibly during bouts of anxiety. Entering the yoga studio feels like a having warm blanket wrapped around you. I love the school, it’s other teachers and am grateful to have such an excellent school within my local area. I know I will maintain this practice for a lifetime.

  • A 3-day workshop series with Lulu was a wonderful opportunity to deepen my understanding of the physical and energetic aspects of both Asana and Pranayama. With the expert support of a truly masterful teacher, all students could extend themselves regardless of their level of yoga experience. Lulu's joy for the practice of yoga was contagious and left long-lasting impressions and a desire to build on what we have learned.

  • I have been fortunate to experience two of Lulu’s weekend workshops, each time, and particularly this last time, coming away with the desire to deepen my yoga practice beyond merely asana practice.

Lulu’s depth of knowledge and understanding of Iyengar yoga is clearly evident in the way she instructs students with the slightest of adjustments to gain, and feel, the full potential of each asana. Her gentle and encouraging instruction getting more from my practice than I was aware was possible.

Both times I came away from the workshop revitalised and eager for more...
    Thank you so much Lulu.

  • The knowledge, professionalism, dedication and enthusiasm to yoga is totally inspiring at Blue Mountains Iyengar Yoga Studio. It is a warm and welcoming and you feel part of an amazing community.

Lulu and her team of yoga teachers consistently support and encourage you to explore yoga so that you develop a sense of flexibility and confidence far beyond the yoga mat. I have gained so much from this wonderful place!

  • I have been a student at the Blue Mountains Iyengar Yoga Studio since 2001. I have loved every minute of my involvement with the Studio. The teaching of Lulu and the team has been nurturing, empowering and loving. Teachers provide structured teaching in the Iyengar tradition within a class environment while always being sensitive and responsive to the individual needs of students. Iyengar yoga as a practice develops physical strength, balance and flexibility while working at a deeper level to promote mental calm, focus and poise. The practice has been instrumental in keeping me healthy, focused and balanced in my life. I might begin a class feeling agitated or tired. I invariably leave feeling relaxed, calm, light and able to cope with any challenges life throws at me. This is the power of yoga .

  • The Woody Head retreat was a great learning experience as well as a great location. The social interaction with other Yoga students enlightened our experience of yoga. As our first retreat with you we were surprised at what we learnt. The food was out of this world and as a non vegetarian I thoroughly enjoyed what was supplied. We both look forward to attending more retreats in the future.

  • It was an absolute treat to spend a recent weekend practicing with Lulu when she came to our studio in the Adelaide Hills. Under Lulu's expert guidance, I gained fresh insights into familiar poses as well as ventured into less familiar territory. Each workshop left me feeling happily spent and mentally refreshed. Thank you, Lulu! I hope you come back soon.

  • When I attend a workshop with a very experienced, senior teacher like Lulu I feel a mixture of excitement and nervous anticipation. Lulu's easy warmth and personal approach allowed me to relax right from the start.

Over two days Lulu gradually built on poses that promoted both strength and opening, using demonstration and detailed instruction as well as giving us personal corrections to support us in accessing the poses. I find that instructions given in a different way can often help me to explore a new and healthier way of working.

There were more challenging poses for those wanting more extension and alternatives for others needing to work differently. Lulu brought a balance of more active as well as restorative practice including pranayama, that left me feeling both energised and soothed.

Lulu clearly drew on a wealth of understanding about the body and her years of teaching to engage and support a large group of participants with a broad range of experience as well as physical restrictions, using a sensitivity and sense of humour that allowed everyone to feel included and seen.

I found this experience deeply satisfying and nourishing, I would definitely do another workshop with Lulu and I'm looking forward to next time!

  • Woody Head in the Bundjalung national park was picturesque and perfect for Lulu's winter retreat. The yoga classes were motivating and encouraging for all levels. Lulu is an extremely accomplished senior Iyengar yoga teacher whose devotion and compassion are felt in her teaching. This retreat was the perfect moment to delve deeper into your practice, slow down and reconnect. The food was delicious and innovative. Deb's ability to calmly prepare magnificent meals for us all was admirable and welcome after our asana sessions. I highly recommend this wonderful retreat.

  • Blue Mountains Iyengar Yoga Studio is a warm, welcoming place with highly trained, dedicated teachers and a great community of people. Whenever I walk in the door, I know I'm in a happy place of growth, renewal and respite.

I'm so grateful to the teachers at the studio. Their knowledge, dedication and care has helped transform my practice, and in turn, my approach to life. When I first started yoga it was mostly for the physical benefits, but more than ever I find I turn to yoga for the peace of mind and mental strength it brings.

  • There’s nothing like retreats, workshops and intensives to solidify any endeavour or skill, and yoga is no different. Having attended both a retreat and a one day workshop with Lulu Bull, I’d highly recommend her for any student looking to progress and develop their yoga practice. Lulu’s style is present and engaging. She brings a maturity of knowledge and experience, both within her own practice and in teaching others, such as to make her individual attention seem intuitive, calm and effortless. Through gradual focus and progression on the limbs of yoga, I found myself naturally opening to what was possible rather than being limited by my thoughts and body.
